Stagger Your Social Media Updates

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Think about it, sending out a tweet or Facebook update is bit like sending a signal into space, hoping to eventually interact with another intelligent life form. In both scenarios you can’t know for sure who is listening (or if anyone even is), when they are paying attention to your message and when they will be most receptive to it, and what they want to hear from you in order to ensure a response. Sometimes, a social media update is little more than a well planned shot in the dark. But there are ways to help your messages get heard by more people in your target audience, and it’s not nearly as complicated as trying to talk to aliens. Stagger your social media updates and republish content! For example, when I get into my office in the morning I take 15 minutes and send my blog posts out through my various social profiles (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Google+). Right now I am using HootSuite to manage my social media accounts, as it’s faster and more convenient than having to login to each profile separately. HootSuite also gives me the added advantage of being able to schedule posts in CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Your Content is Only as Boring as You Let It Be

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Every month my company attends the Boston SEO Meetup, a Meetup event for local SEO and internet marketing professionals, business owners and anyone else interested in learning more about SEO. At November’s event, founder Dave Matson spent a few minutes talking to the group about some of the challenges he has writing content for his clients, criminal defense attorneys. He explained that it’s hard to get people excited and wanting to share a blog post about DUIs, but that doesn’t mean he can’t find creative ways to incorporate trending topics into his content marketing and still have it accurately reflect your brand.] He recently wrote a blog post that talked about what Occupy protestors should do in case they were arrested CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Now is NOT the Time to Ease Off Your SEO!

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

One of the worst mistakes a site owner can make with their SEO is to assume that once they reach the top of the SERPs then it’s time to call it a day and wind down their SEO campaign. That’s like a NASCAR driver taking their foot of the gas and just cruising in on the last five laps—the competition is going to catch up a lot quicker than you think! If your site is positioned well in the SERP, now is the time to pounce! Never take a shortsighted approach to your SEO and assume it’s done. There is always new opportunities to take advantage of and help grow your online brand. Don’t look at SEO as a line item in the budget. Many companies (or CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Every site owner needs to determine if they are a good writer before starting their SEO. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, but content is too important to just do "ok." Are You Paying Attention to Your Social Network?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

If you think that social networking sites are just another platform for you to tote the benefits of your brand/products/services, it’s time to reevaluate your social media marketing strategy. Social media is a two way street; don’t forget that! Your social network is expecting you to listen to them, just as you hope they are listening to you. But are you really paying attention? A recent study by MarketTools found that nearly half of the companies they surveyed think their customers don't comment or complain about their products and services online, and 22% did not know whether their customers did so or not. To that I have one thing to say: really guys? I take pride in my company’s CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

HTML5 SEO New Information

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

If you’ve had your ear to the ground over the last few months, you’ve probably heard
ead about HTML5, the latest HTML language available for website development. As of September 2011, a study found that about 34% of sites had converted to HTML5 . However, even though the number of websites using HTML5 is growing, it is still not fully supported by all Internet browsers and Google is of the mindset that it can’t hurt (but won’t necessarily help) your SEO. So what is a site owner to do? I came across this great post by Kerry Dean on Search Engine Land a few weeks ago that does a great job of explaining the reality of CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Don’t Let PageRank Control Your Link Building

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Every time a client asks me about how they can improve their PageRank, I have to cringe a little. Time and time again I have explained that PageRank is only one of 200 ranking signals that Google uses to determine where a site falls in the SERP. While PageRank used to be the Grand Poobah measurement of SEO success (and a major differentiating factor for Google), I don’t believe it’s as important today as it was back when Google was founded. So when a client tells me they only want me to focus on getting links from sites with a PageRank 7 or higher, I have to tell them that zeroing in on PageRank is limiting the long term potential of their link building campaign. Are Your AdSense Ads Really Worth It?

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

At PubCon Las Vegas back in early November, Google’s Matt Cutts warned “If you have ads obscuring your content, you might want to think about it…Do they [visitors to your site] see content or something else that’s distracting or annoying?” Many in the SEO industry had already assumed that ad heavy sites were being targeted by Panda, but this confirmed their suspicions. After Cutts’ announcement, many SEO and PPC professionals commented that this advice was a stark contrast to Google AdSense’s advice of “ads located above the fold tend to perform better than those below the fold.” So what is a lowly site owner to do? In my opinion, if Google says that sites with too many ads above the fold are likely CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Optimizing Content for the B2B Business Cycle

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Since the B2B business cycle can much longer than the average B2C business cycle, you can’t truly measure the success of your SEO until your business cycle has come to a full close. That’s why it is so important for B2B companies to start their SEO off on the right foot! If you missed the mark with your on-site optimization or off-site SEO, it might be months before you realize that your SEO headed off in the wrong direction, forcing you to start over. One of the most important things a B2B company can do for their SEO is make sure their content is properly optimized. What is your customers’ problem and how do they go about searching for answers/solutions? For example, a small business owner CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...

Updating Your Onsite SEO or Your Blog Content? – SEO Video Tip

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

For site owners looking to keep their website supplied with "fresh" content, it is better to routinely publish new blog posts than completely redo your onsite optimization every month. Site owners should really only redo their onsite SEO every 1-2 years, not make changes every few weeks. By the time the search engines get around to re-indexing your website, you may have changed a major onsite SEO component yet again. Use new blog posts to tell the search engine that you have new content that they need to crawl and index. Watch this week's content marketing video lesson here! Taking an Onsite SEO Inventory of Your Website

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

How long ago did you last sit down and go through your website with a fine toothed SEO comb and optimize each page? If you’ve been actively engaged in a link building campaign for the last few years, it’s probably been a while, right? On site optimization, in my opinion, should be the first phase in any SEO campaign. After all, what good is an increase in traffic to a site that isn’t prepared to convert? (But that’s an argument for another day!) However, if all your recent SEO efforts have been focused on link building that may mean it’s time to revisit your on site SEO! First off, take a look at pages you haven’t updated in the last 6 months or so. Is all CLICK HERE TO READ MORE...
