Proactive Reputation Management is Important
Some of the greatest offense starts with an amazing defense. Have you ever heard this quote? It really is a true statement when it comes to online marketing. Companies that tend to wait until they are hit with a brand or reputation management issue in the search engine space will usually find themselves putting in twice the effort to really clear up any tarnished marks.
Why should I perform proactive reputation management now?
When you take the time to perform reputation management now rather than later you allow yourself to build up a nice wall between you and any negative press that tries to invade the search results for your company branded name. As you fill up the search results with good solid branding information that allows to age you are ultimately creating a cushion between you and any negative press. All content online that has a URL to sit on requires some age in order to really anchor itself into the search results.

What does proactive reputation management consist of?
Basically reputation management can consist of a variety of different marketing efforts that you would use every day to market your business online:
Press Release Writing: When news worthy information comes about surrounding your business try writing and distributing some press releases surrounding the topic. Always make sure to use your company name in the title of the PR and the first paragraph.
Business Profiles: Business profiles are also a great way to combat any negative press that finds its way into your search space. Launch as many as you can find and they will begin to rank in the search space automatically for your company name.
Social Media: Social media marketing is also a form of reputation management when done correctly. Leaving blog comments behind can cause those comments to also rank in the search space for your branded name as long as you somehow incorporate your name into the comment section.
Don’t wait until your reputation management is a reactive one because you will find yourself using many more resources in order to clean things up. Set up a proactive online reputation management campaign now and if you ever find yourself in one of those situations you will be happy you took the precautions early.

Nick,
Never really thought of this as a separate marketing strategy before. I perform SEO for mostly small local companies that are trying to compete with the big boys and most of my clients have good reputations. This does give me something to think about when I go after bigger companies. Thanks for the great info.
Thanks Jon for reading and your comment!
Take Care!
