Don’t Blame Your SEO for Slow Business

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

I see it many times, things get slow for a certain business and they quickly blame their search marketing campaign or SEO. How about you look at a few different things that could be triggering your lack of revenues?

Products
Just because you think your products are the cat’s bag doesn’t mean everyone else does too. You have to realize that search engine optimization is the process of creating traffic and visibility. Once the visitor arrives it is up to your business and your brand to really take care of the rest.

Poor Website
In today’s business world a website needs to be running like a well-oiled machine especially if you have an e-commerce website. A visitor needs to have the euphoric feeling when they arrive at your site, that feeling that makes them want to navigate through pages and buy products from you. Make sure your website is updated regularly in order to keep things fresh and up to date.

Lack Of Brand
Does your business lack any branding ability? Or do you have a branding message that is the wrong one for your audience. Branding is a strong motivating factor as to why people do what they do on any website. Whether it is just hanging out on your website and reading through all your blog posts, submitting information through a lead form or just going to straight to your products page and making a purchase.

Lack Of Conversion Aspects
Conversion aspects on a website are also a large component to slow down any sort of website conversions, actions or sales. You have to have things in place to correctly funnel website traffic down to its ultimate goal. Never assume that people are going to understand what they need to do when they arrive to your website. You have to lay it out for them. All the search engine optimization in the world will not help you if this is not correctly put in place.

Don’t be quick to blame your search engine optimization for lack of business. Start by taking a good hard look at your website and business model first.

Good post. I think sometimes people expect miracles out of SEO, when really it is meant to generate more leads for clients, not resurrect a poorly constructed business model/website.

If your business does not have a way to capture leads, offers a product/service not worth buying, and has a poor website, you may not be ready to hire an SEO company yet because you will not get the full benefit of your money spent on SEO.

One of the first questions I ask any perspective client, Are your services that you offer comparable to your competition? better service, better price, what is your niche. I let them know I can get eyes on their website or Places page, but once the customer calls you or emails you then it’s up to you.

Great article for us SEO’s. Wish a couple of my clients would see this article.

Very true, I agree that slow business shouldn’t be blamed on just SEO. The website itself does play a big part in the slowing down of a business. Websites should be deigned in a user friendly way for a start, and in a way that makes the product or service compelling.

An amazing product could be let down by bad online marketing, and an average product could be overrated and sell out the stores thanks to a good website. So it definitely matters about the website itself.

Great post, I enjoyed this post, as all of your posts are enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

Before anything else, it is very important to decide which SEO company you should work with in order to ensure that you are getting the type of help, support and assistance that you need for your online business to succeed.

I’m with Boise SEO on this one. I always ask potential clients, “why do you deserve to rank?” If they can’t answer that, then they have bigger problems than SEO can solve. If a company doesn’t have a solid business plan, then an SEO is going to struggle from day 1 and we set ourselves up for failure if we enter into a contract with a company who doesn’t start out with something of quality to offer.

My favorite quote: “I can’t polish a turd. If you bring me a turd, I’m not gonna SEO it.”
