This is a huge problem in the community, almost every client I speak with has been overcharged and is not happy with the services of the previous seo company. I try to structure my clients retainers with a set of value services (sort of an all inclusive deal).

I can't imagine penny pinching as an SEO, it create a bad reputation for the company, although we all do want to get paid for our services, keeping good clients is easier than finding new ones.

Now that makes sense. Completely agree. Have experienced the over charges by a company before. Once I worked for a company that did the same thing as mentioned by Laurie. They charge for every little thing, even if it was something simple or a technical phone call to request something. The hand over the keys is so true. Now what your paying for before you pay. Read the fine print and ask questions.

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts!

Exactly, this is why we have great CMS systems (Wordpress and Drupal), dedicated server for hosting so we can do 95% of the website updates ourselves and have our web developer do the big stuff! :)

Take Care,

So kind, so true! And, may you earn a new client due to great word-of-mouth!

Especially horrid are the web designers who don't hand over the keys to the car after delivery. "Oh, a new photo for a staff change?" Or "I see, a new menu?" $100 here, $100 there. Not acceptable. Ask first.
