Great Info. Thanks for laying it out so clearly, all in one place. I regularly have to try and explain to my clients that the “magic scheme” they are considering spending on, wont work. I also put a focus on stats that can lead to profitable business rather than easy to get overall visits.

I agree with this statement: Pagerank is NOT everything, but in my opinion it still means something important. It could give an idea on the QUALITY of the link. Just an idea, and when you plan to partnership with other sites it is useful information. I use it a lot as a reference for external link.

If you have access to Google Webmaster Central you can track backlink building a bit closer. It isn’t fail proof and is usually delayed, but is nice once the links pop up there so you can see them.

wow. I agree with everything you said, you certainly hit the nail on the head. For small businesses that have only been just been told about SEO it is a confusing ball game. There are many good and bad ways to do SEO, ethical and unethical. I believe one needs to research as much as possible before hiring an SEO expert.
