Have an SEO State of Mind

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Being successful with search engine optimization for your own business or your career requires a person to be in an SEO mindset at all times. What this means is that you need to be thinking about how anything you put out into the search engines is going to react in the search results. Whether it is an article or a press release or even a business profile you should always be thinking about how that piece of information is going to bounce around the search space.

For Example:

Titles:

Anytime you can utilize a title somewhere you should always have some keywords present. This doesn’t mean to spam every profile website or article submission site you can get your hands on but realize that a title with some keywords is going to rank quicker and show up in more locations than a title without any keywords. Always keep it tasteful and never just stuff keywords into the title space. Make them fit naturally so the integrity of the user experience is always preserved.

Descriptions:

Often times things you do allow for either a description or even an “about me” section. These are great opportunities to utilize keyword rich descriptions in order to allow your business to really rank in search results. Remember that it is not just the major search engines where your material is going to pull up. People use website search boxes all the time to find things they are looking for and each opportunity on your profile should be utilized so that your profiles always have the possibility to pull up in search results.

Don’t ever assume that something you do online won’t appear in a certain location. Search engine optimization is not just to get a website ranking. It is used to get anything ranking because search engines and search features on websites are simply readers. They have to be able to read in order to pull items into any search result space which is why it is important to always have keyword rich snippets for descriptions and title sections.

I always like to write my title and description from a SEO point of view, then step back and re read them with my user hat on in order to check i havn’t been too shamless with the keywords and ruined the chance (if seen) of a potential site conversion by compromising on usability with poor content.
