I am very active on LinkedIn and I think the key is to share information based articles and blog posts only, not promotional posts trying to announce a product. Many people consider this spam and every group is slightly different based on the moderators of that particular group. Your best bet is to write and submit helpful and informational articles and you should not have a problem.

How do you distinguish between whats acceptable and whats not in a Linkedin Discussion? I posted a comment about a new wpwebhost service i had just found out about becuase they offer free premium themes when you purchase a hosting package and 2 people accused me of spamming. The topic is about the cost of a thesis theme. Not sure why i was accused of spam. I was just trying to help out. Seems to be so much negativity and cynical comments. Others where really appreciative but i still have 2 that leave those comments for everybody to see.

Yes, I agree with you it is insulting and does not stand up to the expectation that a live person will be there not a standard generated message only…

I have to agree with you, Nick. I tend to turn off sites that have live people, as well as the fake virtual assistants some sites have. In particular, when sites have you click to speak with a “live” person only to find it is a robot. This is insulting to the reader’s intelligence. This may work on people who are new to the internet, but not to seasoned professionals.

Hi Dan,
I have not been a fan of the live people on sites…In fact I have only seen it in action about 4 or 5 times on client websites and it did not seem to increase the conversion rate at all…

When you make a pertinent comment, other blog visitors will follow the link to your website as well.
