Steps to Build Your SEO
Search engine optimization is one of those things that require certain steps in a specific order to really work well. I often times see many people putting the buggy before the horse really just wasting time, energy and money by not putting the puzzle together in the right sequence.

The following are a few SEO steps to consider. I mention FEW because there are so many involved but these are a few to think of:
1st SEO Step: Everything starts with your website. Your website is the foundation for everything else you do online so you want to make sure it is running at 100% efficiency. This means having a well optimized website with unique meta info and optimized well written content. You also want to make sure that your conversion aspects are all in place and your user experience is tip top of you want to really maximize your online marketing efforts.
2nd SEO Step: Once your website is fully optimized with all conversion aspects in place now it is time to put together a link building strategy. You want to try and do it in a way where you can visualize it at first. Put together a 12 month outline of what you plan on doing every month to market your business so you can visually see it.
3rd SEO Step: Once your website is complete and you have started the process of building links to your website it is now time to dive into the social space and start speaking with people online. Don’t worry about stirring the waters too much when you first arrive. Set up your Facebook fan page and make it visible along with a Twitter account and start using them. Each platform and business is going to have a different approach so just get in there and have fun with it. All it takes is just becoming visible sometimes for your audience to find you and initiate conversation.
4th SEO Step: Once you have spent some time establishing yourself online it could be time to think of some viral marketing efforts. When done correctly they could really help you generate some very targeted one way links to your website.
This is a general outline of what we think is a nice approach to building up your SEO efforts. If you want to contribute to this list, please feel free to leave a comment.

Good tips for a strong SEO campaign Nick, 1st SEO Step is the most important I think. Having a strongly optimised website is the foundations of any successful online campaign. Make sure your keywords aren’t conflicting on different pages, have a well planned distribution.
HI Rory,
Conducting effective keyword research that fits into your well written content is essential and these are some of the first steps of your long term SEO effort…
Thanks for reading and your comment!
Nick
I agree for all steps. Prospective clients are all too often asking, “How much sales can I expect to see within___ weeks/months?” As any ethical SEO firm knows, this we cannot assume or make a promise to. A well-developed Web site w/ great content and quality backlinks still will not guarantee lots of sales.
Website owners must be patient & do the work to build trust and reliability and work to build relationships with potential clients/customers.
Hi Alicia,
Thanks for reading and the comment!
So very true, it is about building trust and being patient, I wish all clients could really understand this when it comes to SEO…
Nick,
Great tips! I completely agree with all your points and think that a lot of people and companies overlook step 1: optimizing on-site SEO. Meaning: you own the real estate and you have the power to contol what it says, so make it as SEO friendly as possible (keywords, titles, etc). You do a good job enforcing this and a lot of people forget!
Thanks for the great tips, it makes me feel better about the work I’m doing!
I agree that patience and strategy is the key. I have a client that had NO web presence until I built her a simple site a few months ago. We focused on content, efficiency and user experience. Now we’re working on links and keywords. She contacted me yesterday thrilled with yet another new customer that found her through her web site. She’s a dream client–she gets it, she’s patient and we can see the hard work paying off for her.
BTW, Nick, LOVE your blog!
Most SEO experts believe that it’s 20% on page and 80% off page (links). Would you agree Nick?
To me it is the clients job to make sure the website sells – The SEO’s responsibility is to drive relevant traffic off of target keywords.
Really excellent tips there, though if you have a Flash site like I have, SEO becomes something of a stumbling block.
As much as I love Flash, it is very frustrating, and I wonder with the advent of iPad/iPhone and the lack of Flash functionality, whether it’s days are numbered…..food for thought
i want to know which submission is get good result for your website to coming in the serp first page
Hi,
Great tips Nick! Thank you for sharing.
It is also important to follow up with the changes and developments in the search technologies and consumer search behaviours and implement a constant optimisation and tweaking strategies to make sure you are maintaining your position once get there. It is important to get to the desired position but as equally important to remain there.
Thanks everyone for reading and sharing your thoughts!
Hi Kelly,
I would say that is about accurate but that 20% (for on site SEO) is still so very important!
Take Care,
Nick
Hi Nick,
Valuable tips. Can you specify something more about viral marketing efforts..
Good work man..
An effective viral marketing strategy:
1. Gives away products or services
2. Provides for effortless transfer to others
3. Scales easily from small to very large
4. Exploits common motivations and behaviors
5. Utilizes existing communication networks
6. Takes advantage of others’ resources
Nice posting, Nick
slow and steady wins the race
The success of your website depends on the
Many factors but SEO is the crucial factor to
Determine your internet marketing compaign
Optimize your site with excellent content, targeted keywords ,tags …etc. Trust plays a big role in getting sales , getting links from other sites help build that trust and your rankings at the same time.Get the link building going , the more links coming from other places the better(social media/bookmark/ any links). Remember these links bring traffic/exposure and with time reliability and trust.Great content with a good internal links makes for better site navigation and a better experience for the users. Make sure to have no bad links(404) on your site.
That`s my view.
Have a great day!
Agree with Nick, the 20% is very important 20% because if you mess up that 20% then the 80% off-site can be useless (to some extent)
Thanks Darren for reading and your comment! Exactly! Every part of SEO program is so very important!
