Trust Building is the New Link Building
Security is something that is on everyone’s mind and as long as technology gets crazier people will find ways to leverage it to cause harm or damage. Anybody can build a website and publish it live, but not everyone can build a website and have the search engines display a great deal of trust to that domain. I know that Google has been ramping up security quite a bit this year and we will most likely see the trust factor and security play a larger role when it comes to search engine rankings.

A spammy website that nobody wants to link to is not going to have much trust factor surrounding it from a search stand point. A website that is an authority figure and receives a generous amount of links is going to clearly develop more of a trust factor than the spammy website. With so many changes occurring in the world of search engine marketing, the algorithms are always changing as society and culture changes. Not every hacking related story makes the headlines, but with more and more attempts for sites to get hacked Google will most likely tweak their algorithm even more for rewarding trustworthy websites. To build your trust you have to naturally position yourself as a brand in the industry; a brand that can grow as your audience and industry grows. Pretty soon it will be all about trust building rather than link building. Not to say that links are not important, because they truly are the holy grail of marketing a website, but trust is still a relatively new area for website owners to acknowledge, simply because trust building can come in some many different attempts.
Trust and security go hand in hand. I think that we are going to see a large shift in which direction websites and website owners try to build their appearance online. Being able to trust a website is going to play a large role when it comes to search engine rankings fairly soon. We don’t really know how much emphasis is currently placed on the whole trust factor, but we do think it is going to enter a much brighter spotlight in the very near future.

We agree with you post totally, and feel this goes hand in hand with link building. Good post!
I have a question about article links. I write a lot of unique articles and it takes a lot of my time. My website is at the top of the search engines for my targeted keywords but not a lot of people visit my site.
I was wondering after I write an article, would it be better to publish it to my blog page where not a lot of people will see it, or publish it on Ezine and get a link out of it and maybe more people will see it.
I know Google doesnt like duplicate content, so I need the best bacg for my buck.
Thanks for your time Nick

Hi Shawn,
Thanks for reading!
I would say a combination of both works and I would also look to build out your article marketing, so contribute article to other sites and blog that are not just ezine and are industry specific as well…
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Nick
Great article!
Social Media is a great way to build trust for your company. You can not only create conversations that engage customers, but you can use social media to build relationships and trust. This trust is vital for the success of companies today. According to the 2011 Edelman Trust Barometer survey, “Trust is a protective agent and leads to tangible benefits and a lack of trust is barrier to change. “
we recently wrote a blog about how to use social media to build trust : check it out

Hello, Nick.
I have been following you for a while now and your advise has proved extremely useful but there is something that I am unsure of and wondering if you could help me.
After checking who has been linking to me lately I came across a site that has copied my feeds and posted them direct onto their site. Now I am wondering if this is a good or bad thing for me coz even though they are coping me I am actually getting 100s of links pointing to my site from them..
So should I report them or let them continue as its generating links?
To Chris,
If you have 100s of link pointing to your site from them then is that a beneficial to you?
This is also depend on if the site is an authoritative. I have reported a lot of website who uses my content that i posted in ezine. Their site still up and running…
Nice read Nick
@Chris you said “So should I report them or let them continue as its generating links?”
I’d leave them links in place to be honest, Google will not count (or give any weight to) a non-relavant (off topic) link back to your site and if the site pointing to you is on topic then all the better for you.
“Trust Factor” is (and was from the start) an important part of Google-The-Business so irrelevant content and links wont be counted as such.
I have had all sorts of irrelevant links pointing to my sites from all types of websites on the net and never ask them to remove links – they soon disappear after a few crawls from Google-Bot.
Thanks for reading Stephen and sharing your thoughts here!
Take Care!
Nick
Thanks Nick. I read your newsletters all of the time and enjoy your articles.
The best way to gain trust seems to be writing great informative articles and creating a popular blog -links are just a byproduct that Google looks at as reference points.
That`s my take.
Thanks Nick
Have a great day.
Hi Nick, Great article, I just had a massive conversation with the outsourcing company i am using to build links, it came to my attention that they were link building from everywhere..which i didnt agree with, i asked them if they could kick it industry specific however..i believe throwing lnks around with same anchor is a sure fire way to be picked up by Google. What do you suggest?
