What the Best LLM SEO Tools Actually Cost per AI Answer

Peec AI’s Starter plan is €85 a month for 50 prompts, checked daily against three models. Peec does the multiplication for you on its own pricing page: that is 4,500 AI answers a month, which is about 1.9 cents an answer. Scrunch’s cheapest plan is $250 and caps you at 5,000 responses, so five cents. Same job, nearly triple the unit price, and I have not seen anyone ranking for this term do that multiplication.

One of those roundups promises twelve tools “tested and ranked” in its meta description and then never names a second tool in the body. That is the state of the genre. A page that claims a dozen tools were tested, and shows no prompt set, no screenshot and no number the author could only have obtained by logging in, tested nothing.

So here is what this piece is and is not. I did not run nine platforms for ninety days. What I did was read every vendor’s pricing page on 2 October 2026, write down only what each one commits to in public, and convert it into a unit that compares across vendors. Prices are list prices, monthly, as displayed. Some are in euros and some in dollars, and I have not converted them, because the exchange rate is not the point.

The unit is answers, not prompts

Every vendor sells prompts. Nobody uses prompts. What you consume is answers: one prompt, run against one model, on one day, in one country, produces one answer to analyse. Peec states the arithmetic outright (tracked prompts × active models × tracking frequency) and it is the only honest basis for comparison, because a plan with 50 prompts across three models beats a plan with 100 prompts across one.

The self-serve tier converges hard. Otterly, Peec and Rankscale all land between 1.6 and 2.1 cents an answer at their entry price, and they keep converging as you climb: Peec Advanced is €425 for 31,500 answers, Rankscale Enterprise is $780 for 48,000, 1.4 cents and 1.6 cents respectively. That is not nine products competing. That is one commodity, API calls to the same handful of models, with nine different dashboards bolted on top.

Scrunch is the outlier at five cents, and the gap is not explained by engine coverage, because Core tracks the same four engines everybody else gives you at the bottom tier. It is explained by Scrunch selling to enterprises and pricing the $250 plan as a trial that happens to charge money.

Only one of the nine refuses to publish a paid price at all, and it is the one most often called the market leader.

The add-on that changes the bill

Otterly’s €29 entry is the cheapest real number in the market and it is also the one most likely to surprise you later. The four engines included are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot. Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode are add-ons, and the add-on prices scale with your plan rather than with the engine: Claude is €29 a month on Lite, €109 on Standard, €439 on Premium. Gemini and AI Mode are €9, €59 and €149 across the same three tiers.

Nothing dishonest about that, and the page states it plainly. But if your buyers use Gemini, the €29 plan is a €38 plan, and the €489 plan is a €1,077 plan once you add all three. Price the engines you actually need before comparing headline numbers. AI Mode in particular is the one I would not skip, and it is an upsell at every tier.

The suites quietly ate the entry tier

This is the finding that should change what most teams do.

SE Ranking’s Core plan is €109 a month and includes 100 prompts tracked daily across five engines, plus 2,000 keywords of ordinary rank tracking, five domains of competitor research, and 250,000 pages of crawl. Otterly charges €189 for 100 prompts and no rank tracker. Peec charges €205 for 150 prompts and no rank tracker.

Semrush now bundles AI search tracking, AI sentiment, visibility reports for any domain and custom prompt monitoring into its base $139 SEO plan. Ahrefs goes further: Custom Prompts is free on every paid plan from Lite upward, which starts at €47, and the separate AI Visibility Index starts at €179. That index holds 449 million modelled prompts, of which 315 million are AI Overviews, about 30 million each for Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot, and 12.7 million for AI Mode.

If you already pay for one of those three suites, do not buy a pure-play tracker this quarter. You are probably paying for the capability twice. Go and look at your existing plan first, and if the prompt allowance there is thin, the cheapest upgrade in this market is almost always one tier up in a tool you already own.

Where the pure-plays genuinely pull ahead is further up the stack: query fan-out, source and citation analytics at the URL level, prompt-volume estimates, bot-crawl logs, sentiment and objection tracking. Peec’s feature list runs to brand attribute scoring and fact-checking against statements you define. Those are real capabilities that no suite matches today. They are also capabilities that need somebody whose job is to act on them weekly. If that person does not exist on your team, you are buying a dashboard nobody opens.

What a free week gets you

Before any of this, get a baseline that costs nothing. Four things are free right now:

  • HubSpot’s AI Search Grader runs a one-off brand check with no account at all, and carries a disclaimer that the output is AI-generated and unreviewed. Treat it as a smoke test.
  • SE Ranking’s AI visibility check on its tracker page gives you five runs a day against five engines with up to five competitors, no signup.
  • Ahrefs lets you preview AI visibility for any brand against its index without paying.
  • Profound’s trial is free for seven days: 50 prompts run daily against ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews.

Run all four in one afternoon. If none of them shows you anything you did not already suspect, that is a result too, and it saved you the €1,020 a year that the cheapest serious plan here costs.

What none of these tools can tell you

Model answers are non-deterministic. Ask the same prompt twice and you can get two different brand sets, which means every number in every one of these dashboards is a sample, and a 15-prompt plan is a very small one. Daily tracking on 15 prompts produces a tidy-looking line chart built on almost nothing. I would rather have 50 prompts weekly than 15 prompts daily, and the pricing pages are all built to sell you the opposite.

None of them measures revenue. Agent analytics and AI-referral tracking tell you that someone arrived from an assistant, which is the closest thing to ground truth in this field and still a long way from attribution. Nobody can currently show you what a citation is worth, and any vendor who implies otherwise is selling.

And visibility is not a ranking. There is no position one in an AI answer, no stable SERP to screenshot for a client report, and the metric names (visibility score, share of voice, brand index) are each vendor’s own invention, computed differently, and not comparable between tools. Pick one and stay in it, because switching resets your history to zero.

The measurement logic that matters before you buy anything is in getting cited in AI answers, and if your traffic has already fallen and you are assuming AI is the cause, check that first, because it usually isn’t. If you are still arguing internally about how much of the budget this deserves, GEO vs SEO has the split.

Where I would spend

Solo consultant or a small site: nothing. Use the free checks quarterly. At DR 20 with 40 pages, your AI visibility problem is a content and citation problem, and a €29 subscription measures it without moving it.

In-house team already on Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking: use what you own, for a full quarter, before you shop. The bar for adding a pure-play is a named person with recurring time booked to act on source-level data.

Agency reselling this as a service: buy on answer volume and white-label support, not on the feature grid. Rankscale’s Growth plan at $385 for 22,000 answers and Otterly’s agency terms are both built for portfolio work, and both are cheaper per client than a per-brand enterprise contract.

Enterprise with a brand that AI already discusses: this is where Profound and Scrunch earn their unpublished prices, and where fan-out and objection tracking stop being a novelty. Ask for the prompt set and the model list in writing before you sign, and make the trial run against your real buyer questions rather than the vendor’s demo set.

If you want a fixed prompt set measured against your competitors without buying a subscription at all, that is what our AI visibility audit does.
