The question this answers

Not "what is wrong with my site" — that produces a list of 4,000 crawler warnings nobody actions. The question is narrower: can Google reach, render, store and rank the pages you are investing in? If the answer is no, every pound spent on content and links is spent on top of a foundation that cannot carry it.

When a technical audit is the right purchase

You are publishing consistently and pages are not ranking. You have replatformed or are about to. You inherited a site and do not know what was done to it. You have a large catalogue and suspect Google is only seeing part of it. Or your site is JavaScript-rendered and nobody has ever confirmed what Google actually indexes.

When it is not

If organic traffic has already fallen and you need to know why, this is the wrong service. That question is narrower, more urgent and answerable in two days rather than three weeks — our traffic drop audit is built for it and costs less. A full technical audit in that situation spends most of its budget confirming things that were fine before the drop and are still fine now.

Equally, if you already know what is wrong and simply lack the capacity to fix it, a second document confirming it will not help. That is a delivery problem, and the honest answer is implementation rather than diagnosis.

Why findings carry an effort estimate

Most audits rank findings by impact alone. The result is a list whose first item costs three months of engineering time, so nothing starts and the audit is quietly abandoned. Every finding we deliver carries an estimate in hours and a named owner, which means your team can start with the four-hour fix today and schedule the three-week one properly. If we cannot estimate the effort, we do not understand the fix well enough to recommend it.

What we will not do

We will not pad the report to justify the fee. A site with a sound technical foundation gets a short document saying so, plus our assessment of where the real constraint sits — which is frequently internal linking or content rather than anything technical. We would rather tell you that than sell you a finding.

We also will not withhold the underlying data. The crawl export, the URL lists and the Search Console queries ship with the report, so you can verify every claim and take the work to anyone you like. Suppliers who will not release their raw data are protecting a sales process, not a methodology.

Questions we get asked

How is this different from your traffic drop audit? +

This one is proactive: nothing has necessarily gone wrong, and you want to know whether the technical foundation can support the rankings you are aiming at. The traffic drop audit is reactive — traffic has already fallen and the job is finding the cause. If your traffic has dropped, start there instead; it is narrower, faster and cheaper.

Do you implement the fixes? +

Not as part of this. The audit is diagnosis, written so your own developers can act on it without us. If you would rather we implement, we scope that separately once we know what is actually wrong — we do not quote a retainer before the audit tells us what the work is.

What access do you need? +

Read-only Search Console and analytics to start. Server log files and staging access if the site is large enough to need crawl budget analysis. We do not need CMS or production write access to diagnose.

What if you find nothing serious? +

Then you get a short report saying the technical foundation is sound, and our honest assessment of where the actual constraint is — usually content, links or internal linking. That is a legitimate outcome and we would rather deliver it than manufacture findings.

How much does it cost? +

It depends almost entirely on page count, template count and whether JavaScript rendering and log files are in scope. We publish the labour behind each tier so you can sanity-check any quote, ours included.

Do we keep the raw data? +

Yes, always. Crawl exports, URL lists and the Search Console queries ship with the report. You can take them to another supplier if you want to — an audit you cannot verify is a sales document.

Find out whether the site is the constraint

Tell us the page count, the platform and what you have already tried. We will come back with a scope and a fixed price — and if a narrower diagnostic would answer your question for less, we will say so.
