Sites with 50+ pages of content that are not ranking

The problem, in one sentence

Most sites that have published consistently for a few years have enough authority to rank — it is just distributed almost at random, pooled on a homepage and a handful of old blog posts, while the pages that generate revenue sit four clicks deep with three internal links pointing at them.

What we find, nearly every time

  • Orphan pages. Published, indexed in theory, and reachable only through pagination or a sitemap. Crawlers deprioritise them and they never rank.
  • Buried commercial pages. Your service and product pages sit deeper than your blog archive, because navigation was designed for browsing rather than for equity flow.
  • Link pooling. A single popular article holds a large share of internal equity and links out to nothing relevant.
  • Anchor text waste. Hundreds of internal links reading "read more" or "click here", passing no topical signal whatsoever.
  • Cannibalising clusters. Five posts on the same topic linking sideways at each other with the same anchors, so Google cannot tell which one you want to rank.

The deliverable is a list, not a diagram

Plenty of audits hand over a beautiful network visualisation that nobody can act on. Ours includes the graph, but the thing you actually use is a table: source URL, destination URL, suggested anchor text, and the reason. Your content person works down it. Most sites are done in an afternoon.

Alongside it you get template-level recommendations — related-post logic, breadcrumb structure, hub page design — so that pages you publish next year inherit the right structure instead of recreating the problem.

When this is the wrong purchase

If you have fewer than about fifty content pages, there is not enough graph to redistribute and you would be better off spending on content or a broader engagement. If your pages are not ranking because nothing links to your domain at all, internal linking will not substitute for that, and we will tell you so before invoicing.

Questions we get asked

Why does internal linking matter more than getting new backlinks? +

It does not always — but it is free, it is entirely under your control, and it works this month rather than next quarter. On sites with existing content and existing authority, redistributing what you already have is usually the cheapest ranking gain available.

How many links will you recommend? +

Typically 60 to 200 specific placements depending on site size. Each one names the source URL, the destination URL and the anchor text, so implementation is mechanical.

Do you implement the links or just recommend them? +

The standard engagement is the placement list, because your team can action it in a few hours. If you would rather we implement, we quote that separately based on CMS access.

How long until we see anything? +

Internal link changes are recrawled quickly — often within two to three weeks on a site with reasonable crawl frequency. It is one of the faster-acting things in SEO.
